Report on ap bank fes '23: Society, Life, and Music
Special Edition
TAKEFU set up shop at ap bank fes '23 Society, Life, and Music!
Due to the effects of the COVID-19, it was the first event in an incredible five years! Tickets were completely sold out and, miraculously, the weather was mostly clear, making for three passionate, energetic days.

The ap bank, which organizes this festival, is an organization that launches various projects, such as support for those who are engaged in renewable energy and environmental conservation activities and recovery support activities, in order to realize a "sustainable future".

With founding members like the musician Takeshi Kobayashi and Mr.Children's Sakurai, a variety of artists perform live at the main venue. There's also an area lined with food stalls, and an area where shops selling body-friendly daily necessities and consumables stand side by side, and TAKEFU was one of these shops. Of course, the food also includes many health-conscious options such as additive-free items, and to reduce waste, they encourage the use of your own tableware. If you don't have tableware, they provide paper vessels instead of plastic, showing consideration for the environment in various ways and creating a slightly different atmosphere from ordinary festivals. It's a bustling but somehow relaxed and laid-back atmosphere.
Since this was my first time attending, I got excited by the live music and festival atmosphere that reached my ears, and met many customers at the TAKEFU booth.
What surprised me was the number of people who said they had bought something from TAKEFU at the ap bank festival years ago and had come back! Among them was a family who had encountered TAKEFU at the ap bank festival 12 years ago, had a child the following year, had gone through child-rearing and periods of hiatus, and were back at the festival for the first time in 12 years. They said, "We bought this 12 years ago and it's really good, we're still using it," and what they pulled out of their bag was a white towel handkerchief.
While it showed signs of use, it had no significant frays or stains and was in a very clean condition, reaffirming the durability of TAKEFU products. At the same time, I was moved that they had kept TAKEFU in mind for over a decade, all because of this one small piece of cloth. They purchased a new towel handkerchief for their child, who was born the year after they bought the handkerchief and is now 11 years old.
Not only these people, but many others came holding colored gauze shawls and Japanese cloth that we no longer sell, saying, "I bought it here before and it was good, so I came looking for you!" You can tell they have been using them with care for a long time.
While there were such reunions, of course, there were also many new encounters!
A young man who came on the first day stopped by just before the live show, and as soon as he touched the small bath towel, he was amazed at its softness and bought a small guest towel as a trial. When we soaked it in ice water and handed it to him, he was delighted by how incredibly comfortable it felt. He came back to the store on the second day and told us that he had spent all day outside yesterday, but the towel was really comfortable! He soaked the guest towel in ice water and went to the live show again.
He came to the store even on the third day, which was the hottest. Due to the extreme heat, he thought that if he wore TAKEFU, he would feel at least a little better... and changed his socks on the spot and left. He even stopped by after all the live shows on the final day and took socks and trunks as souvenirs.
I was very happy to have met customers that I would not have met if it weren't for ap bank, and the fact that one customer relied on TAKEFU to enjoy the ap bank festival comfortably.
This time, perhaps due to the fact that it was midsummer, outdoors, and parasols were prohibited at the live venue for safety reasons, the most popular item was the Seifu gauze shawl (single size). Many were amazed at how putting it on from the head in a sunny spot creates shade and cools down instantly as it allows the wind to pass through. Especially on the third day, it was so hot that you could feel the danger of direct sunlight, and many people came to TAKEFU like a last resort, wondering if there was any way to take countermeasures, and took the shawl. It was sold out by noon.
Another item that was popular as a measure against the sun was the arm cover. I myself had bought and was wearing a jacket for UV protection for the ap bank, but on the third day, it was so hot that I couldn't bear it. I didn't have the courage to go out in short sleeves, even under a tent... When I put on the arm cover to show it to the customers, I felt a cool sensation. So, I took off my jacket and switched to arm covers, and I was surprised at how cool it really was. At first glance, the arm cover looks very warm, but it keeps a smooth feeling due to its good breathability and sweat absorption, and it seems to have been perfect for midsummer. It also provides about 90% UV protection. I should have started with the arm cover from the beginning (laughs)! That's the only thing I regret about this time.
The T-shirts that can also be worn cool and smoothly in midsummer, and the Sarari pants, were also popular, and some people changed into them on the spot.
Even though they were in the position of making a purchase, when I saw the smiles of customers who thanked us for the impromptu change of clothes, saying "Thank you! You really saved me!", I couldn't help but feel what a wonderful encounter it was.
The TAKEFU booth also served as a health room at times, with customers using the daily support sheets on parts of their feet that had blisters from their shoes, or wearing spats on their feet that had been sunburned like burns.
On the last day, when I went to wash my plates after a meal, I heard back number's MC during their live performance. They said something like,
"When I learned about ap bank and looked it up, I felt like it was something very big, and I think they are actually doing big things. But in the end, all they have is something very simple, that 'there is nothing more important than life', and they are doing everything for that alone. I think that's really cool, and I'm glad to be able to participate."
"There is nothing more important than life"
It's an obvious but often overlooked phrase. And I felt that TAKEFU can support this phrase, and I was a little happy to think that we are a suitable presence to participate in this festival.
Both the customers, exhibitors, and artists experienced three warm and kind-hearted days at the ap bank festival! I hope that those who encountered TAKEFU here will lead a more comfortable life than ever before.
Lastly, I interviewed President Aida about what impressed him the most at this ap bank festival.
President Aida said, "This was the first ap bank summer festival in five years, and I was worried whether I would have the physical strength as I was five years older, but over these three days, I kept drinking hot tea when it was hot. I realized that by minimizing the difference between the external temperature and internal temperature (body temperature), the body doesn't feel as distressed. This was a very big discovery. The tea was a Chinese tea made by someone closely related to us, and it really helped me."
That's right. This is something I definitely wanted to share! For three days, with the advice of our Vice President, we, the TAKEFU team, were constantly drinking warm tea. It might seem difficult to drink hot tea outdoors in the middle of summer, but thanks to this, everyone was very energetic for the three days...! It seems that when you drink cold water, your body gets very tired because it has to raise the temperature to body temperature. The tea we had also had a sweat-inducing effect, so it helped regulate body temperature and we were able to get through the three days without feeling sick or sluggish, which we usually feel in midsummer. I used to gulp down cold water and cider when I was hot, but this was a great discovery for me in terms of body sensation, so I wanted to share this wisdom with you. When it's hot, drink hot things. Please try it when you feel overwhelmed by the heat this summer!
With the help of tea and TAKEFU, ap bank was filled with many impressive moments.
I hope everyone has a wonderful summer!
